Transparency: I was offered a copy of The Real Face of a Vtuber free of charge in exchange for my thoughts.

After having played The Real Face of a Vtuber for a few hours, I am compelled to continue this tale to completion. I want to know who in this hybrid, successful small company decided to end their benevolent boss in such a violent fashion that he obviously did not deserve.

No one deserves that.
Every single one of us that has ever slaughtered a chicken knows that the head,
well, That’s just gotta go.

We do know that least one of the employees we’re talking to is a lying liar, that is lying through their teeth. Maybe it’s more than one and the lying liars are working together.
We just have to figure out which lying liar or liars it is! Yes, as the YouTube video I’ve posted shows, I am going through systematically with each suspect to see where our discussion leads, what facts are uncovered. Unfortunately, our detective seems to be easily distracted, as the options to shamelessly flirt with not just his coworkers, but also murder suspects pop up on occasion.

I notice that some of these scenes have a limited form of animation to them, but no voiceover. It’s all text. The developers must have faced some struggle to balance not only the content, but the shortened attention spans of a potential audience, and lowered rates of literacy across certain age groups. I do like the self-monitored pacing by which you can navigate across the screens at your own speed.

The ability to pause the game, and pull up the notes that are taken during interviews with each suspect. The first time I’d played act one, I ended up accusing someone that soon after, was revealed to be, let’s just say… I chose poorly.

The game is very forgiving of these missteps, at least to the point in the tale that I’ve reached.

I feel that the translation of this game is spot-on, and bumpy grammatical missteps remain in the past here, versus a few other vn games out there. At no point do I feel something is missing. Everything is communicated clearly. The cast has well-developed characters and personalities.

I’ve never played any Ace Attorney, but have seen enough memes and screenshots to tell that this may be an homage to that well-loved series.

I love how there’s a ticking clock element to this with the Vtuber in question ignoring commands to not go online and talk to their audience about the case. Of course, this directly affects the investigation, and tracks thought previously covered must be pursued yet again. Which employee is the Vtubers real face? Who is plotting these broadcasts, and why?

But yeah, all the employees have their quirks, but seem innocent enough.

Unlike one specific little lying liar that I’ve found so far.
